The anguish of the lockdown transcended from quarantining oneself to facing severe economic challenges. Being ‘Atmanirbhar’ or ‘self-reliant’ was the motto. However, are comforting words during this dreadful pandemic just enough for the hope of a better future?
During the national lockdown, we came across a viral photo of a migrant crying on the footpath to travel back to his hometown. Similarly, there were many such emotionally and physically drained migrants in search of food, water, and means of transport, fighting this battle all by themselves. This only made us wonder WHERE IS THE LOVE? We discovered Hemkunt Foundation, an NGO situated in Haryana that feeds over 8000 migrants each day! We shared the same sentiments about hunger and believed that food is a fundamental human right. And so, we joined hands in solidarity to feed migrants who were attempting to travel | back to Delhi and Haryana. We extended our help to street vendors, helpers, drivers and many such daily wagers who have been at our service and kept our city functional each day and night! We encouraged everyone to donate Rs, 50 to feed at least one person. By heavily posting on social media until it went viral to texting each one personally! We handed out ‘Meal-Kits’ that not only included eatables but also raw materials to prepare their food for when they travel! The #FeedOneSaveOne campaign took place from 9th June to 5th July 2020 we helped over 160 families by receiving support from almost 140 donors! |
To celebrate this and raise the number of donations all the more, we held a stand-up comedy show featuring Arnav Rao from Comicstaan, Ravi Rao, a famous comedian from Mumbai, and Suman Kumar, writer of the hit web series ‘The Family Man’ The event had over 65 guests while bringing the ultimate and happy end to this campaign.
